What the SPF number means
SPF (sun protection factor) measures protection against UVB radiation, the main cause of sunburn. European rules classify SPF 15 as medium protection and SPF 50 as high protection.
A high SPF does not mean you can stay in the sun longer without care: you need to apply enough and reapply every few hours if you are outdoors.
When an SPF 15 day cream is enough
On an office day or at home, with short trips outside, a moisturiser with SPF 15 like ARUMA Shield is good daily care: it hydrates, helps with firmness and adds a layer of protection.
When you need SPF 50
- Direct sun exposure: beach, mountains, terraces, outdoor sport.
- Skin prone to dark spots.
- After a peel, laser or other aesthetic treatment.
- Throughout the summer, in general.
How to combine them
The order is simple: serum, eye contour, day cream and, as the last step, SPF 50 sunscreen. Leave a few seconds between layers so each product settles.
Protection also cares for your tone
Ultraviolet radiation is one of the main factors in visible skin ageing and dark spots. Protecting your skin every day is probably the most effective anti-ageing gesture.
Frequently asked questions
Does a cream with SPF 15 replace sunscreen?
Not for direct sun exposure. It is complementary protection; for direct sun you need a dedicated SPF 30 or 50 sunscreen.
Do I need protection in winter or on cloudy days?
Yes. UVA radiation passes through clouds and is present all year round.
How much should I apply?
For the face, the usual reference is about two finger-lengths of product. With less, real protection is lower than stated.
